Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ note – Libya

Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, has held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Najla Al Mangush . The two Ministers have met on the occasion of the Business Forum ‘The new Libya introduces itself to Italian companies’, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the presence of Libyan Prime Minister Dabaiba, who is in Rome for his first official visit to Italy since taking office, and numerous Ministers of the two countries and representatives of qualified Italian companies.

While taking stock of the unique bilateral partnership, Minister Di Maio has highlighted the opportunities that the progressive political-institutional and security strengthening in the country offers for Italian companies wishing to play a leading role in the reconstruction of Libya.The Minister of Foreign Affairs has also reiterated Italy’s commitment to the lasting stabilisation of the country, emphasising the importance of preparing the elections scheduled for 24 December 2021 and the related need for a timely definition of the constitutional basis and adoption of the electoral law. The Italian side has also recalled the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement, beginning with the reopening of the Sirte-Misrata coastal road and the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and foreign mercenaries from the country.
