Beirut: The National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW), led by its President, First Lady Nehmat Aoun, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This agreement was formalized in the presence of Vice President Ambassador Sahar Baasiri Salam, along with commission members and a delegation from UNDP.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the MoU sets a strategic framework to enhance gender equality and empower women and girls across Lebanon. The initiative aims to align with both national priorities and international commitments, thereby fostering inclusive and rights-based development outcomes in the region.
The collaboration between NCLW and UNDP focuses on several key areas. These include bolstering women's participation in politics and leadership roles, promoting economic empowerment for women and girls, and increasing awareness and advocacy concerning women's rights, particularly in personal status laws. Additionally, the MoU seeks to develop institutional capacities to improve policies, legislation, and programs that support gender equality.
