Beirut: Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdellatif Derian on Thursday contacted Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam, whom he congratulated on his designation to form the new government. 'Dar-al-Fatwa endorses and backs the choice of the lawmakers to nominate Judge Salam, on whom the Lebanese are pinning hopes to build the state of law and institutions and find solutions to the crises,' said the Mufti during the phone call.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Mufti Derian praised Salam's 'academic, judicial, and diplomatic career, as well as his integrity, transparency, and national role that Lebanon needs in this difficult time.' The support from such a significant religious figure underscores the importance of Salam's role in addressing the nation's challenges.
For his part, Salam expressed gratitude to the Mufti for his support in the path of reform and reviving Lebanon. He emphasized the aspiration for Lebanon to become 'an oasis of peace, security, and stability for the Lebanese and all the brothers and friends.' Furthermore, the PM-designate highlighted Dar-al-Fatwa's critical Islamic and national role in maintaining Lebanon's civilized message in the region.
