Nassar Discusses Fate of Lebanese Missing in Syria with UN-Backed Mission

Beirut: Justice Minister, Judge Adib Nassar, recently met with Karla Quintana Osuna, Head of the United Nations-affiliated Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP), to discuss the issue of Lebanese nationals missing in Syria. The meeting was attended by Anne Massag©, Syria file coordinator at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, human rights advocate Habib Nassar, and the Minister's legal advisor, Lara Saade.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the meeting focused on strengthening Lebanon's collaboration with the IIMP to clarify the fate of Lebanese individuals who have gone missing in Syria. Minister Nassar emphasized the importance of upholding the right of families to know the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones, marking a significant commitment towards resolving these long-standing cases.

The IIMP is responsible for clarifying the fate and whereabouts of all missing persons in Syria and supporting their families. Its mandate covers cases involving abduction, enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention, and individuals missing due to displacement, migration, or military operations.
