NATO Affirms Commitment to Ukraine as Alliance’s Security Priority

BRUSSELS: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte affirmed the alliance's unwavering commitment to Ukraine, declaring that supporting the embattled nation is an investment in NATO's own security. Speaking at the conclusion of the NATO Defence Ministers' meeting in Brussels, Rutte emphasized that deterrence and defense remain the alliance's top priorities. He identified Russia as the greatest and most direct threat to NATO's security, while also highlighting the strength of the alliance in the face of Moscow's provocations. According to Kuwait News Agency, Rutte criticized Russia for its violations of NATO countries' airspace and commended the swift response of member nations to such transgressions. He underscored NATO's focus on enhancing the military capabilities of its allies, confirming that the meeting of defense ministers sent a powerful message of continued support for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also addressed the defense ministers, presenting a "victory plan" aimed at rallying necessar y support for its implementation. Zelensky stressed that joint pressure on Russia using all available means is essential to achieving a real and just peace swiftly. He called for decisive and united action to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from gaining strength and further escalating the conflict. Zelensky outlined the critical steps required for enhancing Ukraine's security, which include providing weapons and equipment, air defense systems, long-range capabilities, and strengthening Ukraine's defense industry through appropriate investments. He also highlighted the importance of implementing financial aid agreements to bolster Ukraine's defense and, by extension, NATO's security.
