The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold an emergency meeting next week to discuss the repercussions of the incident of burning a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden, which coincided with the first day of Eid Al-Adha.
In a statement, the organization stated that the meeting comes at the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the head of the current session of the Islamic summit.
The statement noted that the meeting will be held at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and will be open-ended to the Executive Committee to discuss “measures towards these despicable acts and to express the unified position against the desecration of the Holy Quran.” Earlier, the OIC expressed stern condemnation of burning a copy of the holy book, the Quran, outside the grand mosque in Stockholm after Eid Al-Adha prayers.
Also earlier, the organization urged governments concerned with the incident to take effective measures to prevent recurrence of such an act.
