Jammu and Kashmir: In a significant political event, Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference party, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. According to Kuwait News Agency, the National Conference, under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, secured a decisive victory in the recent Assembly Elections by winning 42 out of 90 seats. The party's alliance with the Indian National Congress, which won six seats, further strengthened their position in the assembly. This election was notably the first to be held in almost a decade following the abrogation of Article 370, a constitutional provision that had granted limited autonomy to the region. The elections, conducted in three phases from September 18 to October 1, concluded with results announced on October 8. Support for the new Chief Minister extends beyo nd his party and its traditional allies. The Communist Party of India, Aam Aadmi Party, and various independent candidates have also expressed their support for Omar Abdullah's government, indicating a broad base of political backing as he takes office.
