Jerusalem: Ma’an: Palestinian musician Marwan Abado was recognized with the prestigious Golden Order of the Province of Vienna for his efforts in promoting Palestinian music and culture through his artistic work.
According to Maan News Agency, Marwan Abado received the Golden Order of Merit of the Province of Vienna, one of the highest honors in the Austrian capital. The award ceremony took place in Vienna’s Rathaus, the People’s Hall, in September. Abado was honored alongside Austrian composer Christian Muthspiel for their substantial contributions to the music scene in Vienna, their innovative musical expressions, and their collaborations with diverse generations of musicians.
The event attracted a significant attendance of Austrian intellectuals, residents, and enthusiasts of music, indicating the high regard for Abado and Muthspiel’s work within the community. Veronika Kaup-Hasler, head of the Culture Department of the Vienna State Government, opened the ceremony on behalf of the state governor Michael
Ludwig. She highlighted the influential role both musicians play in enriching Vienna’s cultural landscape.
Further details revealed by journalist Albert Hosp from the Austrian official radio during the ceremony underscored the international acclaim of Abado’s music. Hosp shared insights from his experiences accompanying Abado on a tour to Lebanon, noting the widespread recognition of Abado’s songs in the Arab world, despite his base in Austria.
