Beirut: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine issued an urgent appeal to world leaders regarding the catastrophic and tragic situation in the Gaza Strip. The President emphasized the need for immediate and decisive measures to break the siege, facilitate the entry of humanitarian and medical aid, halt ongoing aggression, release detainees, and ensure a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Abbas highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating that silence in the face of genocide, destruction, and starvation by Israeli forces is no longer an option. He urged global leaders to exhibit courage in addressing these issues, viewing this moment as crucial for future peace and reconstruction efforts. Abbas expressed hope that this initiative would pave the way for halting settlement activities and implementing the two-state solution per international law, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a sovereign Palestinian state.
The President pointed to the upcoming international peace conference in New York as a pivotal opportunity to advance the two-state solution and garner further international support for Palestine's full membership in the United Nations. Abbas also acknowledged the supportive stance of countries like Britain, France, and Canada, along with the European Union and various international committees, which have collectively rejected Israel's blockade and called for immediate aid delivery to Gaza.
Expressing gratitude for these international efforts, President Abbas reiterated Palestine's readiness to cooperate with any entity willing to take practical steps toward peace and reconstruction in Gaza.
