The Papal Ambassador to Lebanon, Monsignor Joseph Spitri conveyed to the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, the greetings of Pope Francis and his wishes to form of a new government in Lebanon. Ambassador Spitri considered that “Without a government, real solutions to what Lebanon is suffering from cannot be reached”.
Ambassador Spitri also briefed the President, on the atmosphere of the “Day of Meditation and Prayer for Lebanon” that Pope Francis held in the Vatican on July 1, reminding that “Pope Francis asked for forgiveness for opportunities that were lost and what could have been done and was not done, asking God for help in order to see more clearly how Lebanon can be assisted”.
The Papal Ambassador also pointed out that “The day of the meeting in Rome began with the acknowledgment of mistakes, and what could have been done better, by churches and Christian spiritual leaders”. “We also wished that politicians, all politicians without exception, would make a reconsideration of their own, so that not all remain sticking to their position, because only through dialogue we can find solutions” Spitri added.
