Beirut: Papal Nuncio to Lebanon, Archbishop Paolo Borgia, visited the old Christian quarter of Tyre on Sunday, bringing reassurance to its residents. He was accompanied by Tyre's Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop George Iskandar, Tyre's Mayor Hassan Dbouk, UNIFIL Chief of Staff Major General Paul Sanzey, and officers from the French contingent.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the visit involved a tour of the old Christian quarter and meetings with residents, who expressed their concerns following a recent Israeli warning. Archbishop Borgia conveyed the blessings and prayers of Pope Leo XIV, emphasizing the Pope's constant thoughts and prayers for the community. He assured them of the universal Church's solidarity and support.
Archbishop Borgia stated, "It is a great joy to be among you today in the city of Tyre, this blessed land trodden by the feet of Jesus Christ." He conveyed the Pope's message that the residents are not alone and are supported by the Church and the Holy See's diplomacy in efforts for peace and stability. He praised the community's resilience and mission as witnesses of hope and advocates of peace.
During the visit, Monsignor Borgia participated in the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Thomas the Apostle, presided over by Archbishop Iskandar. Attendees included Major General Sanzey, Mayor Dbouk, UNIFIL Reserve Force Commander Colonel Ludette Maxime, French UNIFIL officers, and local residents.
