Paraguay and Morocco Secure Spots in World Cup Round of 16 Through Penalty Shootouts

Beirut: Paraguay stunned Germany, one of the tournament favorites, by winning 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time to reach the Round of 16. Julio Enciso gave Paraguay the lead before Kai Havertz equalized for Germany. Paraguay will face the winner of France-Sweden in the next round.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Morocco also booked its place in the Round of 16 after defeating the Netherlands 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Yassine Bounou saved the decisive spot kick before Ismael Saibari converted the winning penalty. Cody Gakpo had put the Netherlands ahead, but Issa Diop equalized deep into stoppage time. Morocco will face Canada in the Round of 16 after avenging its only previous World Cup defeat to the Dutch in 1994.
