Nabatieh: Concluding his two-day tour of southern Lebanon, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam visited Nabatieh this afternoon, marking his second visit to the region in less than a year since the end of the 66-day war. PM Salam participated in a large celebration at the city's stadium to inaugurate the temporary "Al-Baydar" market, a community-led humanitarian initiative designed to support families affected by the destruction of Nabatieh's historic market by Israeli airstrikes on October 12, 2024.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Salam stated, "Today we are meeting to launch this temporary model project, hoping that in the coming months or years we will be able to secure the necessary funding to disburse compensation and to bring the main market back to life." He emphasized the significance of restoring the main market with its heritage characteristics to preserve the city's identity and history. Salam pledged cooperation with the Nabatieh Municipality, the Ministry of Culture, and all other concerned parties in this endeavor.
During his visit, Salam met with local officials, including MP Hani Kobeissi, Municipalities Union Head Khaled Badreddine, and Nabatieh Mayor Abbas Fakhreddine at the Nabatieh Municipality. In his address, he highlighted the importance of development, reconstruction, and heritage preservation, while also emphasizing the government's commitment to the ceasefire agreement established in November 2024. Salam underscored the government's efforts to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire and its engagement with international delegations to garner support.
Additionally, Salam confirmed plans to complete the new municipal building in Nabatieh, allocate necessary budgets, resolve electricity outages, and finalize the Nabatieh-Marjayoun highway, demonstrating his administration's commitment to the region's development and stability.
