PM Nawaf Salam Visits Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Extends Invitation to Lebanon

Cairo: Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam, along with his delegation, visited the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed al-Tayeb, at the Al-Azhar headquarters in Cairo, as announced by Premier Salam's media office.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, during the meeting, Premier Salam updated the Grand Imam on recent developments in Lebanon. He emphasized Lebanon's need for Al-Azhar's support, highlighting its diverse Islamic and Christian composition. Salam expressed the necessity of fostering human brotherhood and tolerance to counteract discord and fanaticism.

In extending an invitation, Premier Salam urged the Grand Imam to visit Lebanon before the year's end, viewing his presence in Beirut as a unifying message for all Lebanese. Salam noted that such a visit would underscore Al-Azhar's historic role in promoting dialogue and coexistence.

The Grand Imam welcomed the invitation and proposed that his visit coincide with an Islamic-Islamic conference in Beirut. This conference would aim to reinforce the principles of the Human Fraternity and Citizenship Documents, promoting tolerance, peace, and coexistence. Sheikh al-Tayeb reaffirmed Al-Azhar's commitment to its global role in combating extremism and spreading a culture of moderation.
