Beirut: Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam convened with key international and local figures on Wednesday at the Grand Serail, addressing critical issues impacting Lebanon. He held talks with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, focusing on the political landscape and recent developments in South Lebanon.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Premier Salam also engaged in discussions with Finance Minister Yassine Jaber and World Bank Group Executive Director Abdulaziz Al Mulla. Their conversation centered on preparations for an upcoming visit by a World Bank delegation to Lebanon.
Additionally, Salam hosted a delegation from the "Gathering of the People of the Southern Border Towns," led by Engineer Tarek Mazraani. The delegation shared insights into the current conditions of border villages and submitted a comprehensive memorandum detailing their demands.
Salam emphasized the government's commitment to reconstruction as a national priority, noting that infrastructure and basic services projects for southern regions are ready to launch pending World Bank funding. He expressed a commitment to visit the South again once project implementation begins, aiming for a prompt start.
The Prime Minister highlighted efforts beyond external loans, detailing ongoing projects by various ministries. The Ministry of Social Affairs supports residents through the "Aman" program, while the Ministry of Energy and Water works on enhancing utilities. Education and healthcare improvements are underway, alongside agricultural support through the World Bank's GATE loan. Public Works has addressed road repairs and debris removal.
Salam assured that demands from the southern delegation, particularly concerning displaced families, will be reviewed with relevant ministries to facilitate their dignified return. He concluded the day's engagements by meeting newly appointed Lebanese ambassadors to several countries, including Romania, Canada, and Australia.
