President Aoun Attends Inauguration of Pope Leo XIV in Rome

Rome: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, along with First Lady Nehmat Aoun, arrived at the Ciampino military base in Rome to represent Lebanon at the papal mass of Pope Leo XIV, set to take place in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun expressed his honor at returning to the Holy See, having previously attended the farewell of Pope Francis. He emphasized that his presence is not just a protocol requirement but an affirmation of the enduring relationship between Lebanon and the Holy See. Aoun extended his congratulations to Pope Leo XIV, wishing him success in his mission, which he described as reaching beyond the Church to inspire global convergence and solidarity.

President Aoun highlighted that peace in Lebanon is a concern for Pope Leo XIV, who addressed Eastern Church delegations during the Jubilee of Hope celebrations. The Holy See reiterated its commitment to fostering peace in Lebanon. Aoun firmly stated that Lebanon will uphold its mission of freedom and pluralism, emphasizing its role in promoting dialogue and understanding to support global stability.

President Aoun concluded by affirming Lebanon's dedication to defending universal values, contributing to the building of a just and compassionate future.
