Beirut: President Joseph Aoun met with the World Bank Group (WBG) Executive Director, Abdulaziz Al Mul, and a delegation from the World Bank’s Board of Directors at Baabda Palace. The meeting focused on the longstanding partnership between Lebanon and the World Bank, highlighting the support provided by the World Bank to Lebanon through various crises.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the President expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s continuous support and detailed the progress of ongoing reforms, particularly those aimed at strengthening governance. He emphasized Lebanon’s collaboration with the International Monetary Fund to restore confidence in the financial sector and attract investments. President Aoun praised the World Bank’s strategy of linking funding to reforms, which he believes enhances accountability and yields tangible results.
President Aoun underscored the importance of judicial reform, stating that a strong judicial system is essential for implementing broader reforms. He expressed hope for continued cooperation with the World Bank to support Lebanon’s recovery and sustainable growth. On the topic of regional relations, President Aoun advocated for stable relations with Syria, noting the interconnected stability of both nations.
Regarding South Lebanon, President Aoun reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024. He noted that Israel has yet to fully withdraw from the South as per the agreement, occupying five hills and escalating attacks amid increasing threats.
Additionally, President Aoun met with the Prosecutor General of Mount Lebanon, Judge Sami Sader, and a delegation from the Mount Lebanon Appeals Public Prosecution Office. He also made a phone call to the President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, congratulating him on his re-election and affirming the strong relations between Lebanon and the Ivory Coast.
