Baabda: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Wednesday confirmed ongoing consultations with Prime Minister-designate, Nawaf Salam, stressing the urgent need to form a government that adheres to agreed principles and standards.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun expressed optimism about the progress, stating, "I hope we are nearing the final stages of this process," while highlighting the opportunities available for Lebanon from various countries willing to offer assistance, contingent on the formation of a government.
President Aoun's comments came during a meeting at Baabda Palace with Dr. Faisal Sinno, President of the Lebanese Islamic Makassed Association, who extended his congratulations on Aoun's election. Sinno pointed out that Lebanon requires urgent solutions, emphasizing that the country is not bankrupt but suffers from mismanagement, thus making government formation crucial for the state's reconstruction.
The President reiterated that the responsibility for Lebanon's recovery is shared by all stakeholders and not just the president or prime minister. He expressed hope that most challenges to government formation had been resolved and highlighted the importance of justice and dignity for all Lebanese citizens.
Additionally, Aoun held discussions with Hani Shmeitily, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at Baabda Palace.
