Madrid: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, concluded his visit to Spain with a significant meeting with King Felipe VI at the Zarzuela Royal Palace. During this pivotal encounter, President Aoun underscored the robust historical relations linking Lebanon and Spain, emphasizing mutual respect and Spain's consistent support for Lebanon.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, King Felipe VI reciprocated by highlighting the longstanding friendship between the two nations, which has been maintained through years of diplomatic relations. The meeting was marked by the presence of key officials from both countries, including Lebanon's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Youssef Raggi, and Spain's Ambassador to Lebanon, Jesºs Ignacio Santos.
President Aoun expressed gratitude to Spain for its support of the Lebanese Army and its contributions to Lebanon's security, particularly through its involvement with UNIFIL forces. He reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to enhancing peace and security across its territory in line with international agreements and resolutions.
The discussions also touched upon strengthening bilateral relations further in various sectors to serve mutual interests. President Aoun appreciated Spain's stance on regional challenges and expressed a desire for deeper cooperation.
In his earlier meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez at Moncloa Palace, President Aoun discussed enhancing bilateral ties and regional developments. Prime Minister S¡nchez reiterated Spain's commitment to Lebanon's stability post-UNIFIL and highlighted the strength of development and cultural cooperation between the two countries. He confirmed Spain's participation in the upcoming Paris conference focused on Lebanese Armed Forces' rehabilitation and training.
