Baabda: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Monday congratulated the winners of the municipal and mayoral elections, commending the "completion of the first phase, which began yesterday in Mount Lebanon Governorate in an atmosphere of democracy and transparency."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun highlighted the active participation of citizens in the elections, noting their determination to voice their opinions and their belief in the importance of municipal work for local development. He emphasized that these elections demonstrate Lebanon's progress and recovery despite the challenges it has faced. The President praised the Ministry of Interior and security forces for ensuring a smooth electoral process.
President Aoun expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the successful completion of this electoral phase, including media outlets that provided comprehensive coverage. He stressed that the real responsibility begins after the elections, focusing on serving citizens and meeting their needs through municipal and mayoral efforts. He called for unity and solidarity among citizens, anticipating the continuation of this momentum in subsequent electoral stages.
In a separate meeting at Baabda Palace, President Aoun engaged with members of the parliamentary Health Committee, who presented a draft law on mandatory universal health coverage. He affirmed the importance of providing basic needs such as healthcare and education to uphold citizens' dignity and highlighted the need for advancements in Lebanon's healthcare sector.
Additionally, President Aoun met with MP Faisal Al-Sayegh to discuss the latest political developments. He also welcomed Sheikh Jamal Al-Dhari, Secretary-General of the Iraqi National Project, to discuss Lebanese-Iraqi relations and their enhancement. Sheikh Al-Dhari congratulated President Aoun on his election as President of the Lebanese Republic.
