Baabda: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received Major General Patrick Gauchat, Head of Mission of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East, at Baabda Palace this afternoon. Major General Gauchat was accompanied by the Organization’s Political Advisor, Maria Kantamigu, and Beirut office official, Col. Henri Ruotsalainen, on a farewell visit marking the end of Gauchat’s mission in Lebanon and his transfer to another post.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, during the meeting, the work of UN truce observers in the countries where they are deployed, including Lebanon, was reviewed. President Aoun expressed gratitude to General Gauchat for his efforts during his tenure with the team and wished him success in his future responsibilities.
President Aoun emphasized the importance of maintaining the presence of truce observers in Lebanon, citing the critical role they play. Lebanon has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to the truce agreement in all its provisions, underscoring the necessity of the observers’ presence.
