Baabda: President Joseph Aoun recently received a message from Pope Leo XIV, expressing the Pope's support and prayers for Lebanon's stability and peace. The message conveyed the Pope's warm wishes to the President, his family, and the Lebanese people, recalling the positive memories of his past interactions with Lebanon.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun also held significant meetings at Baabda Palace. He met with MP Michel Doueihy to discuss critical national issues, including the upcoming parliamentary elections and arms control. Additionally, President Aoun engaged with Dr. Mourad Wahba, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Acting Executive Secretary of ESCWA. Dr. Wahba outlined the objectives of an upcoming forum organized by ESCWA in collaboration with the League of Arab States and UN agencies.
The forum aims to review the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Arab region, bringing together high-level representatives from various sectors. It will serve as a regional platform for discussing the implementation of the agenda and will contribute to the UN80 initiative, which aspires to enhance the UN system's effectiveness in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The forum's conclusions will be presented at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York in 2026.
