Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, emphasized the critical importance of maintaining civil peace and internal stability during a meeting with a delegation of heads of free professions syndicates. He cautioned against actions that could provoke strife and endanger the country's existence, asserting that such behaviors benefit Israel's interests.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun addressed the delegation by stating that civil peace "cannot be touched," highlighting a growing public belief that there is no turning back to past conflicts. He noted that the political class is striving to manage the situation through a unified and clear discourse. The President underscored the role of the army and security forces as the "backbone" in preventing unrest, acknowledging the criticism they face while continuing to make significant sacrifices.
Aoun further noted that Lebanon has endured the loss of over 3,000 lives, the displacement of more than one million people, and extensive destruction, with no clear resolution to the ongoing crisis. He expressed his obligation as president to act according to his conscience and responsibility toward the nation, emphasizing the necessity for the state to protect its citizens and avoid inaction. Aoun concluded by stating that negotiation is the only viable path forward.
