Doha: Qatar has announced that negotiations regarding the ceasefire in Gaza have been suspended and will only resume when a genuine commitment to peace is evident. This comes amidst circulating reports suggesting Qatar's withdrawal from its mediation role, which the state has deemed inaccurate. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the official spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid bin Muhammad Al-Ansari, clarified that Qatar had informed all relevant parties ten days prior, during the latest round of discussions, of its decision to pause its mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel if no agreement was reached. Al-Ansari emphasized that Qatar is ready to recommence its mediation role alongside partners once the necessary determination to end the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza is demonstrated. Al-Ansari further highlighted Qatar's commitment to resolving the conflict and alleviating civilian suffering, stating that the country is prepared to take a leading rol e in efforts to cease hostilities and facilitate the return of hostages and prisoners. He also underscored that Qatar refuses to let its mediation efforts be used as leverage or manipulated for political gain, particularly following setbacks such as the collapse of the initial truce and the deal for exchanging women and children, where commitments were not upheld, and negotiations were exploited to prolong the war.
