Rasamny Stresses Cooperation Between Tripoli Port and Railway Authority, Follows Up On Infrastructure Projects With CDR

Beirut: Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, on Monday welcomed chairman of the Board of Directors of Tripoli Port Authority, engineer Iskandar Bandali, along with board members, and the chairman and director general of the Railways and Public Transport Authority, Ziad Chaya. The meeting was attended by Director General of Land and Maritime Transport Dr. Ahmad Tamer and Presidential Technical Adviser Brig. Gen. Ghassan Al-Mufti.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the meeting focused on frameworks for cooperation and coordination between the Port of Tripoli and the Railways and Public Transport Authority, notably a draft cooperation protocol and ways to enhance integration between maritime and rail transport. Discussions also covered the preparation of necessary studies, particularly a feasibility study on the potential establishment of a railway line linking the Port of Tripoli to the Lebanese-Syrian border, within a phased and carefully assessed approach that respects applicable legal and institutional frameworks, without pre-empting any executive or financial commitments.

Minister Rasamny stressed the importance of sustained coordination between the two entities and instructed that joint work continue within established legal and institutional frameworks, in the public interest and to strengthen the role of public facilities in supporting the national economy.

Rasamny separately met with a delegation from the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR), in the presence of the ministry's advisory team. Talks addressed projects overseen by the council, notably the expansion of the Jounieh Highway, the Arab Highway, and a number of road projects. The meeting further reviewed mechanisms for coordination between the ministry and the CDR, particularly regarding implementation procedures handled by the council, to ensure proper project execution in line with established standards and the achievement of targeted development goals.
