Beirut: National News Agency correspondent reported that a number of retired military personnel gathered in Riad El-Solh Square, at the entrance to Parliament, as well as in other areas, to protest the 2027 draft state budget, which does not include adjustments to ranks and salaries.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the protestors criticized the authorities for "ignoring their demands," saying that they "do not care about their difficult living conditions." They also accused the state of "making promises without implementing them." They demanded that the minimum wage be raised to around $1,200 amid the exorbitant prices of basic goods and living expenses, which they said are disproportionate to their limited incomes.
Meanwhile, several buses are transporting additional retired military personnel from various regions, particularly Tripoli and northern Lebanon, to Riad El-Solh Square to join the protest gathering.
It is worth noting that roads surrounding Riad El-Solh Square remain open, except for the road linking the Square to Salim Salam, which has been blocked by protesters.
