Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Thursday chaired a meeting to follow up on return and recovery efforts in several southern villages, attended by Council for the South President Hashem Haidar, Higher Relief Commission Secretary-General Brigadier General Bassam Nabulsi, and Central Operations Room Director at the Prime Minister's Office Zahi Chahine.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, discussions focused on ongoing work in the villages of Froun, Qallawiyah, Srifa, Borj Qallawiyah, Zawtar Al-Gharbiyeh, and Ghandouriyeh, as well as measures needed to accelerate residents' return and restore essential services.
Salam stressed the need for the Council for the South and the Higher Relief Commission to expedite procedures for purchasing prefabricated housing units for the villages.
He also instructed the Council for the South to begin repairs to homes that were not completely destroyed, in order to facilitate residents' return.
Salam further requested coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide cash assistance covering rental costs for returning residents from the affected villages.
