Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Wednesday received Sri Lankan Ambassador Anura Withanage in a protocol visit following the start of his diplomatic mission in Lebanon. Discussions during the meeting focused on the post-UNIFIL phase, particularly in light of Sri Lanka's contribution of around 150 personnel to the international force operating in southern Lebanon. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the meeting aimed to address the future of peacekeeping efforts in the region and explore potential collaborations between Lebanon and Sri Lanka. The discussion highlighted the importance of maintaining stability and security in southern Lebanon after the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission concludes. The presence of Sri Lankan personnel has been integral to the operations of UNIFIL, and both parties emphasized the need for continued cooperation to ensure a smooth transition in the post-UNIFIL phase. The meeting underscored the significance of diplomatic engagement in fostering b ilateral relations and promoting regional peace.
