Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met today at the Grand Serail with Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, the Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), who was accompanied by Minister of Culture Dr. Ghassan Salam©. Discussions reportedly focused on enhancing Arab cooperation in education, culture, and science.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Dr. Amar announced the launch of three ALECSO projects in Beirut. These initiatives include plans for smart cities, support for startups, and the establishment of the first-ever Arab Observatory for Intangible Cultural Heritage. These projects aim to foster development and collaboration within the Arab region in these critical sectors.
Prime Minister Salam also met with MP Camille Dory Chamoun, who emphasized the importance of upholding the Taif Accord. Chamoun highlighted the necessity of ensuring that all arms remain under state authority. Additionally, he extended an invitation to Salam to attend the annual memorial mass for President Camille Chamoun and First Lady Zalfa on August 16 in Deir El-Qamar, reflecting on the historical legacy and continued impact of these figures.
In a farewell meeting, Salam hosted UNHCR Lebanon Representative Ivo Freijsen. They reviewed the ongoing efforts of the UNHCR in Lebanon, particularly focusing on facilitating the voluntary return of Syrian refugees. This meeting underscored the continued cooperation between the Lebanese government and international organizations in addressing the refugee crisis and supporting affected communities.
