Saudi Arabia Bolsters UNRWA with Critical Financial Aid

Amman: Saudi Arabia has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) by providing significant financial support, aimed at helping the agency fulfill its mission amidst escalating needs. According to Jordan News Agency, Nayef bin Bandar al-Sudairy, the contribution was confirmed during a meeting with UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini on Monday. Al-Sudairy highlighted the pivotal role of UNRWA in delivering essential humanitarian services and improving the quality of life for Palestinian refugees through enhanced education and medical services. Commissioner Lazzarini expressed his appreciation for Saudi Arabia's support, which he said was crucial in allowing the continuation of UNRWA's educational and health programs. He emphasized the urgent educational needs of over 650,000 children in Gaza who are currently out of school and suffering from severe psychological distress. Lazzarini called for a collective effort to prioritize the return of these children to education. He also addressed the grim circumstances in Gaza, describing the region as being almost unrecognizable after enduring a prolonged period of hardship. Lazzarini raised concerns about the potential implications of Israeli draft laws that could threaten the operations of UNRWA, underscoring the necessity of international cooperation to avert further crises.
