Saudi Arabia’s Al-Baha region showcases rich heritage of pomegranate farming

AL-BAHA: The annual Pomegranate Festival in Al-Baha in Saudi Arabia is showcasing the region's rich heritage of pomegranate farming passed down through generations, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday. Organised by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch in Al-Baha Region, the festival is exbhibiting the finest pomegranates cultivated across the region. Under the patronage of Al-Baha Region Governor Prince Dr. Hussam bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Al-Baha Region Undersecretary Dr. Abdulmonem bin Yaseen Al-Shehri inaugurated the five-day festival on Tuesday. The festival is integral to solidifying Al-Baha's reputation as a top producer of high-quality pomegranates, a status that positively impacts the local economy. The region produces an impressive 1,581 tonnes of pomegranates annually. With the recent launch of the "Pomegranate City" investment project, the fertile lands of Al-Baha are witnessing a new chapter in their agricultural legacy. Covering a sprawling 1.3 million square met res, a 7,000-square metre nursery in the project will grow trees using local genetic stock, ensuring consistent quality and increased production.
