Beirut: A severe storm hit parts of Cyprus, leaving one person dead, putting boats in distress off the island's southeastern coast, and disrupting flights at the country's two main airports, according to authorities and local media, Sky News Arabia reported.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, police said high waves pushed a boat onto rocks near Cape Greco, where the vessel sank. The body of its captain was later found on a rocky section of the coastline.
In a nearby incident, a Civil Defence helicopter rescued another person from the rough seas, local media reported.
The storm also disrupted operations at Larnaca and Paphos airports. Hermes Airports, which operates both facilities, said 11 flights were diverted to other airports on Saturday.
