Beirut: Lebanon's General Directorate of State Security on Wednesday issued a statement rejecting what it described as "inaccurate and unfounded allegations" circulating in some media outlets regarding its national and institutional role.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the directorate reaffirmed its full respect for freedom of expression and the media, stressing that such freedoms must be exercised within legal frameworks and grounded in accuracy and objectivity. It warned against the dissemination of unverified information or conclusions driven by personal motives that could mislead public opinion and harm official security institutions and their personnel.
State Security emphasized that it operates strictly in accordance with applicable laws and under the supervision of competent judicial authorities, noting that any related matters remain subject exclusively to established legal procedures and judicial review.
The directorate also confirmed that it reserves the right to pursue legal action against those responsible for defamatory claims, in order to safeguard the institution's integrity and the dignity of its officers and staff.
