Suez Canal enjoys unique strategic location, says SCA chief

Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie said the Suez Canal enjoys a unique strategic location.

The Suez Canal is considered the most important maritime facility that serves the global trade movement, a matter that was proven by the world countries’ follow-up of the crisis of the grounding of the 20,000 TEU container ship “Ever Given” in the Suez Canal, blocking one of the world’s busiest waterways, and the authority’s success in resolving it.

During his meeting with Hungarian Ambassador to Egypt András Kovács on Friday, the SCA head said the authority will proceed with its ambitious development strategy to preserve the leading status of the waterway by continuously developing its capabilities and potentials.

The new Suez Canal is one of the main pillars of the Suez Canal Area Development Project that will help transform the waterway’s surroundings into a global economic zone, Rabie stressed.

For his part, the Hungarian ambassador expressed his keenness on strengthening relations between Cairo and Budapest in all domains, so that the Suez Canal will be the starting point towards developing economic relations and attracting investments to the Suez Canal area.

At the end of their talks, Rabie invited amb. Kovács to tour the new Suez Canal to see the size of the achievement on the ground.
