Syrian Internal Security Foils Attempt to Smuggle Weapons into Lebanon

Beirut: Syrian internal security forces have foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons into Lebanese territory, an Interior Ministry official said Monday. The operation was conducted by the Internal Security Directorate in al-Qusayr, Homs, in collaboration with its counterpart in al-Nabk, located in the Damascus countryside, following precise information about a suspicious vehicle originating from Jraijir village.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the intercepted Chevrolet vehicle was found loaded with a significant cache of weapons, including nine Konkurs guided missiles, 68 RPG charges, two 107 rockets, and five boxes of BKS ammunition. Security units subsequently raided the gang's hideout in Jairjir village, where they discovered additional items such as Russian-made magazines and a daytime scope.

This operation is part of the Interior Ministry's ongoing efforts to combat smuggling operations, secure Syria's borders, and ensure national security. In a similar incident in December, Syrian security forces intercepted a large quantity of RPG shells intended for smuggling from the Zabadani region in the Damascus countryside into Lebanon.

The Interior Ministry has reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the fight against smuggling networks. Security operations will continue with the aim of bolstering border security and preventing threats to the safety of citizens.
