The Independent Authority and civil society organizations call on teachers to participate in the union elections

The Central Coordinating Committee for the Teachers Union elections met at the headquarters of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Ramallah with a number of civil institutions, educational figures, and political forces, and put them in the process of preparing for the Teachers Union elections.

During the meeting, Mr. Khaled Al-Najjar, Chairman of the Union Elections Supervision Committee, gave a detailed presentation about the preparations that the committee is making and the measures it has taken to ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.

He also referred to the mechanism for preparing the voter register and opening the door to membership in the union, indicating that the committee asked school principals, through the Ministry of Education, to circulate to male and female teachers the procedures for affiliation and election and forms for submitting applications for affiliation.

Al-Najjar indicated that the timetable for holding the elections will be held in stages starting on 10/2/2023. Regarding the rates of membership in the Union, he pointed out that there is a noticeable increase in membership in some branches, with a disparity between the branches, noting that the door to membership is still open, and applications for membership will continue to be accepted until 10 days before the branch elections, and therefore it is expected that membership rates will increase.

He said that the register of voters (members) will be published in each branch immediately after the membership door closes, in order to allow male and female teachers to view it and submit any objections, if any.

In turn, representatives of the institutions thanked the committee supervising union elections for the efforts they are making, stressing the need for the committee to continue its work transparently and to inform teachers of its decisions and procedures immediately.

The participants stressed the need for teachers to be involved in the electoral process through membership, candidacy, and voting, and to remove any obstacles that might prevent their participation. Representatives of institutions expressed their interest in monitoring the electoral process at all its stages
