Tleis Rejects Fuel, VAT Hikes to Fund Wage Increases

Beirut: Head of the Land Transport Unions and Syndicates, Bassam Tleis, rejected the decision to raise fuel fees and increase VAT by 1% to finance wage adjustments, saying the sector supports better salaries but opposes placing the burden on citizens and transport operators.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Tleis stressed that fuel is a basic commodity and any increase in fuel prices or VAT would immediately raise transport costs and, consequently, the prices of goods. He called for fair alternatives that do not come at the expense of people’s livelihoods.
