Tunisia: Arab Conference on Counterterrorism Commences with Kuwait’s Involvement

TUNIS: The 27th Arab Conference of Officials Responsible for Combating Terrorism began at the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunisia, featuring participation from counterterrorism officials from various Arab countries, including Kuwait. The conference aims to bolster regional cooperation in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism. According to Kuwait News Agency, Secretary-General of the Council, Mohammad Koman, highlighted the importance of enhancing Arab security cooperation to tackle terrorism, a transnational crime that demands collaboration among Arab nations as well as with neighboring countries and the global community. Koman emphasized that extremism significantly contributes to terrorism, and the revised 2022 Arab Counterterrorism Strategy seeks to address these root causes by focusing on prevention and mitigation of extremism that fosters terrorism. Koman also announced that a workshop would take place on Thursday, in partnership with the EU-funded Counter-T errorism and Criminal Justice Project. This workshop will focus on joint threat analysis, particularly concerning threats originating from sea and desert regions. It will involve members of the Arab Interior Ministers Council and various international entities, including Interpol, the United Nations, and regional organizations.
