KUWAIT CITY: Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait Tuba Nur Sonmez underlined the enduring and exemplary nature of the historical relations between Turkey and Kuwait, describing them as a model of regional and global partnership. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Sonmez made this statement during a celebration at the Turkish Embassy in Kuwait. The event marked two significant milestones: the 101st anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkiye and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Turkiye. The gathering was attended by notable figures, including Kuwait's Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifah Al-Ajeel, Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs, Ambassador Sadeq Marafi, and heads of diplomatic missions in the country. Ambassador Sonmez highlighted that the relations between the two countries have continued to thrive under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Turkiye President Recep Tayyeb Erdogan. Sh e noted that these relations have reached new heights in recent years through frequent high-level visits and significant agreements in areas such as trade, defense, and investment. The ambassador expressed gratitude for Kuwait's support, particularly its solidarity with Turkey following a recent terrorist attack in Ankara and other tragic events. The ambassador also emphasized the shared vision of Turkiye and Kuwait for peace and stability in the region. Both nations have long supported a just resolution to the Palestinian cause and have collaborated on delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. On the economic front, Ambassador Sonmez reported that the trade volume between Kuwait and Turkiye reached nearly 700 million dollars in 2023. She mentioned that there are 50 Turkish companies operating in Kuwait and that Kuwaitis rank among the top foreign buyers of property in Turkey, purchasing over 8,000 properties in the past seven years. Additionally, she noted that nearly 400,000 Kuwaiti tourists visited Turkey in 2023, contributing to the 57.7 million visitors the country received that year. The celebration also featured an exhibition showcasing the diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Turkey, including images and diplomatic documents from the Turkish archives and a collection of works from Turkish art.
