UAE to Host World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2025

Madrid: The United Arab Emirates will host the World Maritime Day Parallel Event in 2025, as announced during the recent gathering in Spain. The event, organized by the International Maritime Organisation, brought together global maritime experts to emphasize the importance of maritime safety amid evolving challenges and risks. According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE's participation was led by Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport and Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. During the event, Al Malek accepted the IMO flag, symbolizing the UAE's role as the forthcoming host. She highlighted the theme for the 2025 event, "Our Ocean - Our Obligation - Our Opportunity," which aligns with the UAE's commitment to ocean protection and economic growth. Al Malek underscored the ocean's pivotal role in global trade and its significance as a carbon sink. She called for collaborative efforts to ensure the sustainability, resilience, and regulation of the shipping industry. The UAE, she noted, is an influential maritime hub advancing sector practices and legislation to boost safety standards and protect the marine environment. The UAE's initiatives in developing clean, climate-friendly maritime solutions were also highlighted, along with its role as a global convenor of maritime events aimed at fostering innovative solutions. Al Malek expressed the UAE's readiness to welcome international participants to the 2025 event, emphasizing a collective vision for the sustainable use of ocean resources.
