UN Peace Operations Chief Assesses Damage and Injuries in South Lebanon.

UNIFIL Headquarters: UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, visited south Lebanon to assess the situation in UNIFIL's area of operations. During his visit, he met with peacekeepers who were injured in recent incidents and evaluated the impact of the ongoing clashes on UNIFIL's mission. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Lacroix's itinerary included significant locations such as UNP 1-26 in Mansouri and UNIFIL's headquarters in Naqoura. At these sites, he spoke with peacekeepers who suffered injuries from various attacks. On October 10, 2024, an observation post was targeted by an IDF Merkava tank, resulting in injuries to two Indonesian peacekeepers. The following day, an unknown explosion at another observation post injured two Sri Lankan peacekeepers. Lacroix's visit also included a stop at the Indonesian camp, which was struck by a suspected Hizbullah Katyusha rocket on October 14, causing damage to a vehicle and accommodations. Additionally, on October 29, a heavy vehicle workshop was hit by a likely Hizbullah rocket, injuring Austrian peacekeepers. At UNIFIL's headquarters in Naqoura, Lacroix met with both civilian peacekeepers and senior leadership, where he expressed gratitude for their continued dedication and commitment amidst ongoing challenges.
