According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Volker Turk, the UN rights chief, condemned the strikes that occurred on Saturday, involving military actions by Israel and the United States against Iran, and subsequent retaliatory measures by Iran. Turk highlighted the devastating impact on civilians, who invariably bear the brunt of armed conflicts.
Turk remarked that military solutions, through missiles and bombs, are ineffective in resolving disputes. Instead, such actions only perpetuate cycles of death, destruction, and human misery. He called for restraint from all involved parties and urged a return to negotiations, which had been actively pursued just hours before the escalation.
In his statement, Turk appealed for reason and de-escalation, emphasizing the urgent need to avoid catastrophic consequences for civilians and to prioritize diplomatic solutions.
