Beirut: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres met on Saturday, 25 July, with H.E. Mr. Ahmad Al-Sharaa, President of the Syrian Arab Republic, during his visit to Damascus. The Secretary-General welcomed the progress achieved in Syria's political transition and underscored the importance of sustaining this momentum through inclusive participation, aiming to build a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Syria for all citizens. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Secretary-General and President Al-Sharaa explored ways to strengthen the partnership between the United Nations and Syria to support the country's political transition, recovery, and reconstruction. The Secretary-General reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to Syria's sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity and expressed deep concern regarding violations by Israel of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. He also emphasized the importance of preserving regional stability. Furthermore, the Secretary-Ge neral assured the commitment of the United Nations to support the Syrian people and to work closely with the Syrian authorities during this crucial period of transition.
