Beirut: The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, has expressed her support for the recent announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, as stated by her office. The ceasefire is seen as a crucial step towards ensuring the safety and security of civilians living on both sides of the Blue Line. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the ceasefire agreement is viewed as the beginning of an important process that is deeply rooted in the full implementation of resolution 1701 (2006). This resolution aims to foster peace and stability in the region. The Special Coordinator emphasized that significant efforts are required to make sure the agreement remains effective. She highlighted that both parties need to demonstrate a full and unwavering commitment to the terms of the ceasefire. The statement further elaborated on the importance of adhering to all provisions of resolution 1701 (2006), as selective implementation will not suffice. The Special Coordinator pointed out th at neither side can afford to return to a period of insincere implementation while pretending to maintain peace. She commended both parties for taking the opportunity to end a devastating chapter and urged them to follow through with concrete actions to sustain the progress made.
