UNICEF Warns of Delays in Medical Evacuations for Gaza’s Children

GENEVA: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has raised alarms over significant delays in the medical evacuation of children from Gaza, highlighting that on average, less than one child is being evacuated each day. The organization emphasized the urgent need for increased evacuation efforts to address the dire medical needs of the region's young population. According to Emirates News Agency, UNICEF Spokesperson James Elder, in a press briefing held in Geneva, articulated the gravity of the situation, warning that at the current rate, it would take over seven years to medically evacuate the approximately 2,500 children who require urgent medical attention. Elder highlighted that the delay in evacuations is exacerbating the crisis, as children in Gaza are at risk of dying not only from ongoing conflict but also from preventable causes due to inadequate access to essential medical care outside the region. Elder's statements underscore the critical need for international intervention to facilitate faster evacuation processes and ensure that the children of Gaza receive the necessary life-saving treatments. The call to action by UNICEF reflects the broader humanitarian concerns regarding the health and safety of children living in conflict zones.
