UNIFIL Condemns IDF Demolition of Observation Post, Cites Violation of International Law and UN Resolution 1701

MARWAHIN: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has issued a strong condemnation against the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) following the deliberate demolition of a UN observation post in Marwahin earlier today. The incident involved an IDF bulldozer that destroyed an observation tower and the perimeter fence surrounding a UN position, raising concerns about the safety and security of UN personnel in the region.

According to National news agency – Lebanon, UNIFIL has reiterated its call for the IDF and all involved parties to adhere to international obligations and ensure the protection of UN personnel and properties. The destruction of the observation post is being cited as a blatant violation of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which mandates respect for the inviolability of UN premises. UNIFIL emphasized that such actions endanger peacekeepers and breach international humanitarian law.

The IDF has reportedly been pressuring UNIFIL to vacate its positions
along the Blue Line, a demarcation line between Lebanon and Israel, and has been accused of deliberately damaging UN positions. Despite these challenges, UNIFIL stated that its peacekeepers remain steadfast in their roles, continuing to monitor and report as per their mandate. The mission remains committed to its tasks and the safety of its personnel, despite mounting pressures.
