UNIFIL Convoy Obstructed Near Naqoura: Movement Limitations Pose Operational Risks

Naqoura: A statement issued by UNIFIL has highlighted concerns over the obstruction of a routine convoy by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) near Naqoura. The convoy, which included military and civilian peacekeepers, as well as essential contractors, was halted a few kilometers from its destination, posing challenges to UNIFIL's logistical operations.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the convoy faced restrictions despite having been fully deconflicted in advance. While UN-marked vehicles were eventually allowed to continue, local contractors were required to return to Beirut, illustrating a pattern of similar incidents involving physical roadblocks and reversals of prior clearances.

These obstructions have raised concerns about the timely delivery of critical supplies to UNIFIL positions, particularly along the Blue Line. The statement emphasized that ongoing limitations on movement could undermine the sustainment of operations and the ability of peacekeepers to fulfill their mandate, which includes reporting on violations of resolution 1701.

UNIFIL has called on the IDF to honor agreed arrangements and ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers, as well as the freedom of movement for all UNIFIL patrols and logistical convoys.
