WASHINGTON: The US Department of Defense has initiated the deployment of the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to Israel, a move aimed at bolstering the defense capabilities of the region against potential ballistic missile threats. According to Kuwait News Agency, the Pentagon's decision was publicized through a statement by Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder. "Yesterday, October 14, an advance team of US military personnel and initial components necessary to operate the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery arrived in Israel," Ryder explained. He remarked that the deployment process would continue over the next few days, with more personnel and equipment expected to arrive. "The battery will be fully operational capable in the near future, but for operations security reasons we will not discuss timelines," he added. Ryder emphasized that the deployment underscores the United States' commitment to the defense of Israel and to protect Americans in Israel from any bal listic missile attacks by Iran. This strategic military cooperation comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, reflecting ongoing US support for Israeli defense initiatives. The THAAD system is one of the most advanced missile defense systems in the world, capable of intercepting and destroying ballistic missiles inside or outside the atmosphere during their final phase of flight. The deployment not only enhances Israel's defensive posture but also serves as a deterrent against potential threats.
