Washington: The United States has issued a stern warning to Iran, cautioning against its continued support for the Houthi movement in Yemen. This warning follows successful US airstrikes that have reportedly eliminated several key leaders of the group.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz emphasized the need for Iran to cease its backing of the Houthis, stating, "Iran must stop providing support to the Houthis. Enough is enough." Waltz further asserted that the US would hold responsible any entities threatening American interests, extending the warning beyond the Houthis alone.
The airstrikes, which have been described as effective in diminishing the leadership of the Houthis, have raised concerns due to the group's possession of advanced offensive and defensive capabilities that could jeopardize navigation in the Red Sea. Yemeni sources disclosed that the US targeted the residences of Houthi leaders, resulting in the deaths of six leaders.
The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that one of the primary objectives of the US strikes was to target Houthi leaders personally. Informed sources confirmed that the airstrikes hit locations in Sana'a and Saada, where these leaders resided.
The Houthi-run Ministry of Health in Yemen announced a preliminary death toll of 31 people from the US airstrikes, highlighting the significant impact of the military action.
