Tel Aviv: Yemen's Houthi group announced on Sunday that they had launched a hypersonic ballistic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, cautioning international airlines about the potential risks associated with the use of the Israeli airport for civilian aviation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the group's military spokesman, Yahya Saree, delivered a televised statement asserting that the missile had successfully struck its intended target. He further noted that another significant location in Ashkelon was also hit during the attack.
Earlier in the day, Israeli authorities took the precautionary measure of suspending all flights at Ben Gurion Airport following the missile's impact near the facility. This action was taken to ensure the safety of passengers and staff members.
Israel's emergency service, Magen David Adom, confirmed that several individuals sustained minor injuries as a result of the missile falling near Terminal 3 at Ben Gurion Airport. However, no additional details were provided regarding the nature of these injuries.
The strike prompted multiple air raid sirens to sound in various regions of Israel, as the Israeli army made several attempts to intercept the projectile. Unfortunately, these attempts were unsuccessful, leading to increased concerns about the security of the region.
This incident marks the third missile launch by the Houthis in a span of two days. Earlier, the group claimed responsibility for targeting Ramat David Airbase and the Tel Aviv region, highlighting the ongoing tensions and hostilities in the area.
